Suit Up for the First Canderel SuperHero Dash YYC

Canderel is commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Canderel Challenge, an annual fundraiser across Canada that supports cancer research. The Calgary branch of Canderel and Taza Development Corp. is hosting its first Superhero Dash YYC on Friday, September 13th. This five-kilometre adventure through Taza Park will raise funds to support the Alberta Cancer Foundation and bring hope to families across the province. Canderel has the inspiring goal of raising 3 million dollars - we need your help to make that happen!

Team up with your colleagues, friends and family for the Superhero Dash YYC. The unique spin to this event is the superhero theme, encouraging participants to dress up as heroes (fictional or real life) as they run, walk, dash or fly to the finish line. Get together for an afternoon of fun team building, networking and community engagement.

ROUTE & ROAD CLOSURES

The race route will follow Old Strathcona Road past the Metro Ford, turn around at the underpass, loop past the new Tsuu’tina Gas station, and follow Old Strathcona Road back to the finish line at the parking lot across Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. The route will feature five different activity stations with family-friendly challenges. 

Please note there will be road closures during the race time to ensure the safety of participants. Plan your route to the starting line accordingly and consult the map below for race route details.

PRIZES

An awards ceremony and entertainment will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm following the race. Prizes will be awarded for:

• Best Superhero Costume: Embrace your inner hero and dress up as a real-life professional you admire or your favourite superhero character. If you are a healthcare worker, firefighter or police officer you are invited to run in your uniform.
• Heroic Hearts Fundraising Award: Challenge your team to collectively raise the most money and help Canderel reach their 3 million dollar goal for 2024!

Since the inception of the Défi Canderel Challenge which started in Montreal, Canderel has generated over $25 million for two leading cancer research organizations in Montreal, which has driven incredible advancements in our understanding of cancer and led to life-saving discoveries. Major advances in cures, treatments, and prevention have been made possible by these campaigns. 

To increase impact and reach even more lives, Canderel is broadening the scope of the mission by launching fundraising campaigns across offices in Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, directly aiding local cancer centres. Canderel aims to generate 3 million dollars towards advancements in cancer research through this year's fundraisers across Canada.

35 Years of Funding Innovative Cancer Research

Canderel has an inspiring history of supporting cancer research. When Canderel founder Jonathan Wener and his family learned the devastating news that his wife Susan had cancer, he felt helpless. Like many family members after learning of their loved one's diagnosis, he searched for a way to fix the situation. This led to the creation of the Défi Canderel Challenge, which restores hope to everyone affected by cancer and provides a safe space to take action.

With Jonathan’s leadership, Défi Canderel has been at the forefront of groundbreaking cancer research, leading to many success stories over the past 35 years.
